Build the knowledge framework
Step 2 of 8: define what effective oversight looks like
The knowledge framework sets out what good partner oversight consists of. It codifies the principles of effective oversight, the evidence that matters and the criteria used to assess it.
An assessment built without one tends to measure whatever is easiest to ask. This one starts from a stated view of what good looks like, so every question has a reason to be there and the results mean the same thing wherever they are used.
What this step involves
Together we specify:
- The principles that distinguish effective partner oversight from oversight that has drifted.
- The evidence that shows whether those principles are being met.
- The criteria used to judge that evidence, applied in the same way to every relationship.
The framework is shaped by the outcome defined in the first step, so it covers what the decision needs and leaves out what is not relevant to it.
Why it matters
The framework is the foundation for the maturity model and the assessment. It brings the judgement of experienced alliance practice into the system once, so it can be applied consistently and does not depend on who happens to carry out the review.
